This weekend is quite significant as we celebrate Memorial Day in the United States and Pentecost Sunday around the world. Memorial Day is not about BBQ, a long weekend, or the unofficial start to Summer vacations; it is about remembering those who gave their lives so you and I can debate, disagree, and vote against each other. That is made possible by the men & women who sacrificed their lives so we could live in a free country.
But this weekend also marks the feast of Pentecost. While many just blow it off as a “dead Jewish feast,” Pentecost is the birthday of the Church of Jesus Christ! It’s the only feast that does not require a major burnt offering for a sacrifice; the sacrifice is us: our lives wholly dedicated to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Just as He did in that Upper Room so many years ago, may God our Father pour out His Spirit again on us again as we remember the ultimate sacrifice came from the only begotten Son of God.
